Sick Weekend - Homemade Playdough

Wow. What a week and weekend we had. Sickness after sickness. Friday night Cooper started throwing up at 6, I started at 8 and Frank started at 11. Poor Lily was sick even too. It was an all night affair with garbage cans, toilets, and cleaning the sheets 4 times on the bed. Horrible.  Sunday was recovery day and Cooper and I decided to do lots of laid back at home stuff. Like making Play-dough.

We wanted to play with his new candy Play-dough machine, but all his play-dough was dried up! So, we looked up recipes. I really wanted to make this play-dough  with Jello, and had Cooper psyched on it. But, lo and behold, I only had Jello Pudding. Don't think that would have worked. By the way, I love this blog Modern Parents Messy Kids (click the picture and it will take you to it).

Instead, we made normal homemade play dough, but it turned out FANTASTIC! Even better than the real thing. So soft! This is the recipe we looked up/crafted up with what we had.

1 Cup Flour
2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar
1/3 Cup Salt
1 Cup Warm Water
Food Coloring.

We mixed it all together in a pot and cooked it for just a few minutes, stirring often until we couldn't stir anymore. Then grabbed it out and used a little more flour to make it a little less sticky, and Voila! Perfect Play-dough.

Even though we were sick, we had lots of fun just spending time at home over the weekend and playing together, and luckily, the throwing up was gone after 1 intense night.

  1. Mandy - The boys and I made the jell-o playdough yesterday while we were at home. It turned out great and they were amazed that you could "make real playdough with a recipe". LOL. Thanks for sharing! Oh, and it smelled a thousand times better than store bought for sure.

    1. So glad you tried it out and it turned out great! The only bad thing I found when I made the Jell-O recipe is that it smelled so good, Cooper tried to eat it (and Lily too)!
